Thanks To Diane Howell-Thomas and Brigit Graham for preparing tonight’s refreshments and to the Committee members for setting up the Hall.
All our volunteer stewards this evening.
Shelley Choat and Jennifer Kelley for organising a great day out to Aberglasney.
The Committee would like to thank everyone who helped at the Orleton Village Fete on Saturday 20th June. Not only those who helped on the day, but all those who grew plants over the previous months and delivered them to us to sell. Your efforts were much appreciated and, in adverse circumstances, we still managed to raise over £300 for the Village Hall. We are grateful for your patience with regard to the changing day and date of the Fete, this was beyond our control.
Don’t Forget…
The June meeting is The Midsummer Show. You can enter as many exhibits as you wish and the judging is done by you, our members.
Signing In
The Committee no longer require members to sign in. We will report back in due course after looking at the results.
Club Supper – July 28th
We are having a change this year. Instead of visiting Members’ gardens before supper, we have invited 3 of the August Show judges for the evening. We have asked them each to give a short talk on ‘Tips for Showing’. The talks will take place in the Small Hall and each Judge will talk for about 15 minutes. They will be with us for the evening so you will have plenty of chance to ask questions.
In no particular order, the judges attending are:
Flower Arranging Esther Simpson
Preserves Pat Smith
Vegetables David Griffiths
Please bring a savoury and a sweet dish, sufficient for your party, plus crockery, cutlery, glasses and something to drink. (We suggest you mark all the items you bring as there is always something left behind). Tea & coffee will be available in the kitchen, but please make your own and remember to wash, dry, and put away.
AUGUST SHOW
Schedule
The Schedule is now available on our website with links to printable versions. Paper copies are available this evening.
We have once again been awarded the Banksian Medal by the RHS. This will be presented to the person with the most horticultural points in the show.
Trophy holders: Please polish your cups ready for presentation in August. We suggest you wrap them in cling film to prevent tarnishing. These should all be returned to the committee by the weekend of August 8th/9th.
Please note there are additional rules in class 91 – Photography. We have also put photographic tips on the web and printed some copies for those without Internet access.
Please read the schedule carefully as there are changes from last year that may affect you and your entries.

Another Club Outing?
The committee would like to know if you would be interested in visiting Stockton Bury Gardens near Kimbolton in early September. A form is circulating this evening to gauge interest. Please write your name, then tick one or both dates to indicate when you would be able to join our proposed outing. This would be using our own transport, shared where possible.
IF we receive enough positive response, we will try to arrange an outing. We have not yet approached Stocktonbury as we would like to do this as a private group visit on a day when they do not usually open to the public. So, this is not definite, we would just like to know possible numbers.
Chris Beardshaw
If you have not yet purchased your ticket for the ‘Evening With Chris Beardshaw’ on November 24th, please let Shelley Choat know if you would like to buy one. Tickets are, of course, still available to club members, but will not be openly on sale again until September. Please do not ask to be put on a waiting list for guest tickets - this is not an option.

Seasonal tips
Thin your apples after their June Drop
Sow your spring cabbage, carrots, Oriental vegetables and autumn and winter salads
Plant your leeks and brassicas
Start pruning excess growth on Wisteria
Yellow card sticky traps are ideal for monitoring your greenhouse pests
Remember that although we may think of wasps as a nuisance, they are good controllers of many garden pests, as are hoverflies.
